If you are reading this then you probably don’t need to be talked into liking coins! The chances are this is already your hobby and it gives you a whole lot of pleasure too. But do you realise there are also some pretty naff things about numismatics?
Geek Preconception
Simply because of the way a few people are, you are always going to get the odd person who takes the p*ss when you make it known you are into coins. The good news is that only a handful of people still have a mental operating system from the Jurassic period and most understand there is nothing geeky whatsoever about numismatics. Besides, if there was then why the hell would I collect coins???? I mean, I have my urban image to maintain you know! Lol.
Security
When you have a coin collection, security is always a concern. And the larger your collection gets, the bigger that concern becomes. This is a real downside to collecting and you always need to box clever. Because telling the wrong people could result in you losing the lot – which would be bloody horrible for several different reasons ☹
Expense
While collecting coins is a nice pastime it is also jolly expensive! And once you get to a certain point, especially if you are fool enough (like me!) to collect territories and uber rare UK ones, it is BLOODY expensive. Of course, just how costly your collecting becomes will depend on how far you are going to go with things. But be warned – it can take far less time than you think before you are in the realms of serious money. Not everyone will realise this at the start… so it can be quite a shock. And a few people will even decide to stop collecting altogether once they get to a certain point!
Storage
Few of us will be lucky or rich enough to live in a massive spacious home. Storage therefore can often become a serious problem – especially if you like to buy and keep your items in those pretty Royal Mint packs! Of course, if you ever fancied being surrounded by dozens of plastics storage boxes, then coins will make your dreams come true…. However, if this was not the case, coins could easily become the stuff of nightmares instead!
