Most of us are now fully aware of the impact modern life is having on the environment. And over the last decade or so we have seen some pretty big companies making some pretty big changes to reduce their carbon footprints. This is nice because it suggests responsibility.
However, some businesses still do not appear to get it…… While our weather continues to become ever more erratic, while more and more species become extinct; for a few it is still just business as usual.
Quite surprisingly, one such area is the coin industry. Several major suppliers in this area continue to send out tons (literally) of junk mail every single year. It would not be so bad, but the majority of this junk really is junk. It is the type of crap no-one bothers to read simply because it is so obviously crap.

There is also the matter of crap in our inboxes. More and more coin companies are opting to send out endless inane ‘important messages’ about special coins (which are about as ‘special’ as a 1997 Britannia 50p) via email. Opening an account with some suppliers will immediately open you also to such a deluge of spam, you will be left wondering if you had too many glasses of wine the week before and ordered a lorry load of the stuff by mistake.

The whole situation is utterly absurd. Seriously. We are all interested in hearing about new releases….. but only when they are new releases worth mentioning. I mean, do we really need ‘exciting’ messages about world-first novelty coins modelled on ‘Supergran’ and the like??? Is an email containing images of a coin manufactured in the shape of an old lady on a bike going to change the way we look at the world??? More realistically, I think it is far more likely to make us feel we are in need of heavy meds :/
It is time for a rethink. Most folk are genuinely trying to change things for the better. We have done a whole lot of damage to our environment since we got here and now is the time to take action. If we don’t all try, we may just end up being featured in the next novelty series of ‘Once Great Worlds’ over on the planet of Zog.

Totally agree with this Mik, The amount of emails i’ve received about the 2023 year set is unreal!!
It is totally nuts. If it were physical stuff, there would be enough to paper a room within a few weeks 😀
Hope I don’t miss the deadline – it’s just that I’ve only just tunnelled out from the mountain of this week’s crap
Luckily I emerged to find this quality , inciteful piece to balance the universe. Thanks Mik
Hahahahahha. I am glad you made it out okay Richard.
Thank you very much mate 🙂
