After recent events, the launch of ‘Harry Potter’ fifty pences appears to have been postponed. I say ‘appears’ as nothing seems to have been said about them (unless I failed to notice something somewhere?). And when these are now going to be released remains unclear at the moment. So, if you have a child who is ready to explode with excitement after all of those ‘teaser’ emails from Mint and the like…. I am afraid I can offer no comfort :/
As well as ‘Potter’ being shelved, there is also the small matter of another non-shower – the ‘BBC’ fifty pence. Again, nothing has been said about this one. Perhaps both this and the Hogwartian coins will be held off until next year…. but I don’t think so somehow. After all, ‘Potter’ would be a real ‘website-locker-upper’ if released in December due to it’s enormous child-appeal. It’s a no-brainer as there would be thousands of people queueing up to purchase these as gifts!
As we enter the last few months of 2022, it is looking like it a very expensive time for the average collector. Not only are the aforementioned coins slated for imminent release (or they were…..), there will no doubt be other new coins on the way; this time paying tribute to the queen. And going on how many came out to commemorate her platinum jubilee (in every territory you care to name!) we can fully expect to find ourselves completely swamped.
There is also the small matter of ‘The Snowman’. Over recent years this has rapidly become a modern yuletide tradition at The Royal Mint. Last year they took it further still with the introduction of advent calendars….. I wonder what other ‘treats’ they have in store to further their ever-increasing sales?
So, lots of coins are due to be released in a very short space of time. I have a feeling the remainder of 2022 will be costly. Dead handy right before Christmas – when we are all in the middle of a financial meltdown! Lol.
FOOTNOTE – I had planned to publish this post at a later date but…….. the barrage of new coins is now due to begin in the next few days lol.
