The Royal Mint decided to release a coin to celebrate the ingenuity Alexander Graham Bell. It goes without saying that Bell changed the world forever when he invented the telephone. I mean, just think how it would be if the majority of people did not spend the majority of their time reading their Google feed or perusing Facebook on their devices. And just picture a world where young people were still able to hold down a normal conversation; picking up conversational skills to prepare them for adult life along the way. Yup, the world really does owe a lot to Alexander Graham Bell.
But still…..
Henry Gray has done an alright job of this coin in all fairness. It is up there with his ‘Aviation’ design and is also a whole lot better than his (shudder!) ‘The Who’ five pound coin. It is crisp, simple and the way he has snuck ‘PIONEER OF THE TELEPHONE’ into it is both clever and in keeping with it all.
Well done Mint! Well done Mr Gray!
