As far as portraits on coins go, the one on the ‘Dame Vera Lynn’ £2 is very good. There is a nice amount of detail and he/she/them/they/it has certainly captured her likeness.
I say ‘he/she/them/they/it’ because if you try to find out which artist is responsible for this picture you will merely find that is was designed by ‘The Royal Mint’. Personally, I think this is terrible simply because the person/s behind this coin will get no credit for their efforts whatsoever. It would also appear that more releases will be created in this manner. It is all a bit cold, impersonal and anonymous. I for one would like to have congratulated someone by name for the work they put into this coin.
All of that aside, this is a lovely coin which pays a fitting tribute to a truly amazing woman. Not only did Dame Vera Lynn provide hope to those during the war years, she was also well known for her acts of kindness for a long time afterwards.
