Okay, so I am fully aware that virtually everyone is fairly bored of Beatrix Potter coins. I mean, there have now been thirteen fifty pences all in all not to mention God knows how many ‘collectible’ Minty the minty mint pig money boxes along with oodles of non-legal tender tokenesque coins. And this is now the second Peter Rabbit £5….. Overkill anyone?
Design-wise, Ffion Gwillim has now taken over at the helm. It would appear Emma Noble is no longer responsible for Beatrix Potter coinage (maybe she is just as bored of it as everyone else). Personally, I prefer the work of Emma. It is clear she has a good eye for composition in her designs. To me the first Ffion Gwillim £5 coin last year looked messy and ill-defined. The art in this one is clearer but the overall quality of it failed to knock my socks off. If I were to choose a few words to describe it then I would probably opt for ‘lacklustre’ and ‘humdrum’.

This latest edition in the seemingly endless Beatrix Potter coin catalogue is average-nice in colour and okayish-nice in standard cupro-nickel. As long as you do not sit around waiting for a barnstormer to arrive in the post after ordering one then you are not going to be disappointed.
