REVIEW – ‘Remembrance Day’ £5 Coin

  Capturing the essence of what a coin like this is truly about is not an easy task.  Managing to honour the efforts of so many brave servicemen and servicewomen with one simple image is a pretty tall order.  So, when Gary Breeze was assigned this project he must have felt a little apprehensive to say the least.  He would have been fully aware that he needed to create a design not only encapsulating the sombreness of it all but one which would also pay the deepest respect to those who gave their lives to make the world a better place.  For all of these men and women were intent on stopping a terrible and evil force that would otherwise have taken over completely.

I would honestly say that not only has Gary Breeze succeeded with his design, but he has also managed to create one of the nicest remembrance coins to date.  Not only does it tick the aforementioned boxes, it also carries this off with subtlety and tastefulness.  The lettering is suitably plain and epitaphic, whilst the small cluster of poppies offset to the right add a beautiful and delicate splash of colour to it all.

Hats off Mr Breeze.  I am impressed  🙂
