Dear Sir, thanks for the info but …. What does “SYO” stand for? I collect 50p pieces, that’s REAL ones, not funny haha or commemorative ones; though I do have a few that appealed to me. The particular coin in your list is the 2018 Sir Isaac Newton 50p of which I have at least one. I’d really like to know just to expand my limited knowledge of coin collecting. FYI I actually have many coins from around the globe, mainly from places I’ve lived, such as Kenya whose old coins had “holes” in the middle; though some are just from East Africa. Omani coins of 500, 200, 100, 50 baiza coins, mine are very O L D and these days they have notes mainly. Thanks for your time. Yours sincerely
Hello 🙂 SYO stands for Strike Your Own (the highly lucrative marketing strategy created by The Royal Mint a few years back to entice more visitors). I collect too, but only UK and surrounding territories. I collect all, including funny haha and commemorative ones (many of which are quite valuable now). The Isaac Newton 2018 was only available through the SYO scheme and were unavailable any other way. It sounds like you have a very impressive collection. Yes, I am aware of coins with a hole through the middle.
