Oh look! It’s another of those anonymous releases where no-one gets to know who is responsible for the actual design. How exciting!
Yup, Google this blighter and the only results you are going to get regarding the coins’ designer/s are – ‘The Royal Mint Design Department’. Well, either that or ‘TRM Design Department’ (dead catchy eh? The ‘TRM’ part makes it sound proper ‘hip’ and ‘ur-ban’). Kind of boring if you happen to follow the work of certain artists or simply want to put a name to the work in question…..
Apparently, the image has been ‘skilfully adapted’ from images by Wenceslaus Hollar, a bohemian artist from the seventeenth century. We will just remain oblivious when it comes to who was responsible for this ‘skilful adaptation’……. Lol.
As far as antiquated images of cityscapes go, the design on this release is nothing very exciting at all. It is simply ‘okay’ and ‘humdrum’. Nothing about it is worth a special mention and it most certainly isn’t going to knock anyone’s socks off.
